Open Parachute - Showing Hidden Value

Lessons from Open Parachute are designed by psychology experts to teach mental health skills to all students, while being easy for educators to facilitate using Authentic Peer voices.

But, The platform had huge amounts of unrealized value, though no one could see any of it. In reality, neither could we. We’ll share our journey to easily provide these vale of awesome lessons to our users.

Problem

Users had no idea about all the hidden gems of value that the platform contained. Previous user Journey could not even access a single lesson without entering a specific unit preset by the administrator.

Additionally, because information about a single lesson was not provided to users, users had no way of knowing the content of the lesson itself until they started the course. Some lessons were buried at least 10 clicks in!

Defining our goal

🎈 Users can see the value of OP’s content easily and quickly

We need to think about ways to directly deliver the hidden value of Open Parachute to users. This method should not add to the user’s confusion, but should stimulate the user’s interest and encourage action to actively use the OP content.

Ways of working

Stage 1

First, we had to establish and understand the value of the class ourselves. We worked with Open Parachute to identify that a huge volume of content that was not visible to users. Through this work, we were able to extract keywords for the class and establish Overview content, which is the expected outcome page for the class.

This screen is the first improvement screen attempted
after establishing the value of the class. But, it was too complicated

Stage 2

After establishing the value of the lessons, we needed to separate them from the course and give users the ability to explore individual lessons independently. In this process, we worked closely with Open Parachute on developing a new approach called “Standalone lesson”. The Standalone Lessons added a new layer of flexibility and contrast to the Units. 1.

Multi-lesson units are designed to be ran for 30-60 minutes for a series of consecutive classes, whereas Standalone Lessons range from 5-40 minutes and can be completed at any point during the school day.

Stage 3

We thought more deeply about ways to increase the delivery of Open Parachute content value to users. By focusing more on lessons content, lessons keywords can be used as filters rather than simply listed, allowing users to search for lessons according to users desired keywords.

Defining our goal

  • By providing the keywords of the class, Users can identify the contents of the class itself.
  • Create a Standalone lesson service for single-lesson.
  • Users create their own learning collections to encourage proactive learning.
  • Provides filters that allow users to directly explore interesting lessons.
